November Meeting: "Herbal Gifts Workshop"

Remembering Joan, Paige and Hope

A beautiful ‘Sherwood Flame' Japanese Maple was planted on October 24th at the Ascension Church. It is in memory of three extraordinary and lovely women and Ipswich Garden Club
members--Joan Cook (1929-2014), Paige Mercer (1942-2017) and Hope Wigglesworth (1927-2017). All three were active members of Ascension Church.

This tree, dedicated to them, will also become a beautifying presence on County Street.

Recommended Garden Book - "The Life in Your Garden- Gardening for Biodiversity"

Alicia recommends "The Life in Your Garden."

This a super book; a "different" kind of gardening book. Copyright 2016. There is lots of interesting info about both plants and critters in the garden. A gem for the curious.

Check out the book on Amazon here.

A Note from Joyce to All Members re: 2017 IGC Plant Sale

Dear Garden Club Members,
Our plant sale is our only fundraiser for the year and as you are digging and dividing your plants in preparation for the sale we hope the following tips are helpful to you:

• Please kindly label all plants using the label list on the blog. (Plant labeling list is posted under Plant Sale heading at top of this blog.)
(If you need wooden sticks for labeling, please contact me.)
• Mix half peat moss with half garden soil for potting.
• Perennials sell best at the sale.
• Plants to avoid are houseplants, tropical plants, invasive plants, orange day lilies, green leaf hosta (unless they are of a special variety.) And please, bring only healthy plants.
• Begin potting 1-2 weeks before the sale for best results

Deliver your plants on Friday from 3 p.m.6 p.m. to the Hall Haskell lawn or make advance arrangements with me.

We would like to have all plants priced and ready to go Friday evening so we can focus on other tasks the morning before the sale begins.

Important information to remember:

Each member is expected to donate at least 20 plants*. We need the support of each and every member for a successful sale!!

*If you don't have plants to dig this year, you may purchase perennial plants to donate.

*If you will be away the weekend of the sale, plan ahead and drop your plants off with me. Please email me if you would like to do this.

Warmest Regards,
Joyce

Support the Launch of Generation Growers in Ipswich!

Ipswich Sustainable Education invites members of the Ipswich Garden Club to their fundraiser event to support the Ipswich Public School Middle School Green Team Initiative ~ "Generation Growers".

“Generation Growers” is an exciting new program. At the IHS entrance, a new public fruit and vegetable garden is being built with a special focus: to bridge generations and lifestyles. The effort seeks to bring the older adults in our community together with our youth by encouraging them to work together on the challenges and rewards of a common garden.

To purchase tickets or to donate please write to

please click on the poster to make it larger.

Here is a drawing showing what the garden will look like. Generation Growers needs our participation. This looks like a special opportunity to bring FUTURE new members to the Club.
